Russian companies to cooperate in the development of ships with LNG

September 6, 2019. Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo, Gazpromneft Marine Bunker and United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) have signed a memorandum of understanding on the progress of the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as marine fuel.

The parties intend to cooperate in the development of LNG vessels, interacting with the potential consumers of the shipping companies, Gazprom said in its statement.

The trio also intends to cooperate in the construction of infrastructure for the supply of LNG, and the creation of an updated legal and regulatory framework for the use of LNG as engine fuel.

“We see significant potential in the use of LNG as fuel for sea and river vessels thanks to its economic and environmental advantages,” said Oleg Melekhin, CEO of Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo.

Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo is a Gazprom unit established to focus on the development of the NGV market.
