Mercedes Benz in cooperation with the largest supplier of natural gas in Prague, Pražská plynárenská a. s., and energy company E. ON launched the project Eco CNG Summer Tour 2010 in the Czech Republic.
The event consists of traversing a path of more than four thousand miles on two cars, one runs on compressed natural gas (CNG) and the other is powered by gasoline. The aim is to show that natural gas vehicle is much cheaper than traditional alternatives.
The project aims to show that the use of CNG is now more affordable than ever. For this reason, the planned route has significant variations. Drivers must drive through mountain sites, urban and suburban traffic, and manage the movements along the main roads. The units, which departed from Prague on July 2, went over Munich, Garmisch Partenkirchen, Verona, Venice, Gargano National Park, Naples, Rome, and the road leads through a region of Tuscany to Pisa and back to Prague.
The vehicles used were provided by Mercedes Benz. In the case of the petrol version, it is a B 180 BlueEFFICIENCY model, while the CNG powered car is a B 180 NGT model. |
