Minas Gerais leads increased use of natural gas for vehicles in Brazil

July 9, 2012. The Gas Company of Minas Gerais (Gasmig) is the distributor that has the highest growth in sales volume for the segment of natural gas vehicles (NGV) among the ten largest Brazilian distributors. The increase of 7.4% contrasts with the average rate of only 1.2%. Data belong to the last report of the Brazilian Association of Gas Pipeline Distributors (Abegás) published in June, which compares the cumulative value between January and May 2012 with the same period in 2011.

The results presented show the NGV consumption growth in Minas Gerais and reveal Gasmig efforts to recover the vehicle segment. Actions involving the entire natural gas chain, from the conversion workshops to filling stations, ensure increased sales volume, such as maintaining competitive interest rate, tax cuts and holding agreements with financial institutions to finance the conversions, among others. The highlight is the promotion "Vou No Gas", launched in August 2011, which encourages conversions and purchases of vehicles adapted for the use of CNG through the delivery of a bond of 300 and 600 cubic meters of natural gas that allows users to move up to four thousand and eight thousand kilometers, respectively.

Until last June, the promotion had counted 1.290 actions, of which 248 were related to the purchase of new cars with the technology for the use of NGV from the factory. The promotion ends August 22, 2012, but the bonuses are valid for one year.
