Two natural gas vehicles to compete in the Dakar Rally

   The Chilean companies Gasco and Gazel have formed a team to participate in the 2010 edition of the most important competition of rally in the world, "Argentina-Chile Dakar Rally", with two vehicles fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG).

   The two vans Toyota FJ Cruiser, V6 4000cc engine, 236 HP, have equipment from the Argentine company Pelmag, an SMART model of fifth-generation with electronic system of the Italian firm AEB, complying with all the existing rules in Argentina.

   The Dakar Rally will run for 17 days of competition for all types of terrain in Argentina and Chile, starting January 1, 2010 and from December 29, 2009 the vehicles involved are displayed to the public in the Exhibition Center of the Sociedad Rural Argentina. The 2010 Dakar will include a total of 373 competitors, divided in 138 cars and trucks, 161 motorbikes, 29 quads and 50 trucks.

   It is important to note the level of technical and sport professionalism of the Gasco-Gazel team, which is headed by Jose Miguel Melo as Dakar-Gasco Project Manager, and Felipe Ledermann as Team Manager, persons who will show the world that the gaseous fuel can also be used in competitions with high level expectations.
