Bangladesh saves $ 800 million thanks to NGV

Authorities of the oil company from Bangladesh, PetroBangla, reported that the local transport sector has saved more than US$ 800 million in annual oil import bill, thanks to the use of compressed natural gas (CNG).

There are currently about 250 CNG refueling stations in the country and 121 workshops for conversion for about 138.000 vehicles converted. While 14 more stations are under construction and the government has undertaken a project to install 26 CNG stations under the Dhaka Clean Fuel Project funded by the Asian Development Bank. These stations will be located on six routes: Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet, Dhaka-Mymensingh, Dhaka-Aricha, Dhaka-Sirajganj-Bogra, and Dhaka-Mawa.

Each month, transport propelled by CNG consumed about 58.14 million cubic meters, equivalent to 69.77 million liters of gasoline, the import cost of which is equivalent to US$ 67.77 million per month or US$ 813.29 million a year.
