SEEPCO converts 90% fleet to CNG in Nigeria

Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited has taken steps toward achieving environmental sustainability.

May 20, 2025. Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) has taken steps toward achieving environmental sustainability, converting over 90 per cent of its vehicle fleet to run on compressed natural gas (CNG).

The company also planted more than 25,000 trees as part of its ongoing climate action strategy.

The company made this known in a statement issued to celebrate its win after clinching the Outstanding Oil and Gas Company award at the 2025 National Sustainability Achievements Awards.

According to the statement, the event, organized by ESG Impact Consulting Ltd., celebrated organizations leading in Environmental, Social, and Governance initiatives with the theme: “Nigeria’s Green Transition Efforts & Climate Change Revolution.”

The statement which was signed by the Head of Operations and Human Resources, David Walker, stated that “Sterling Oil’s conversion of its heavy and light-duty vehicles to CNG is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting Nigeria’s shift to cleaner energy sources.

“In addition to its transportation upgrades, the company has also modernised its marine fleet by converting its operational barges to double-hull designs, enhancing environmental protection for inland waterways.”
