Calgren opens first public renewable gas station in California

The new facility offers fleets quick access to renewable fuel produced from nearby dairy operations.

March 1, 2026. Calgren opened its first public renewable compressed natural gas (RNG) rapid-fill station in Pixley, California. The facility allows for refueling times similar to those of a conventional CNG station, making it suitable for daily operations that require agility and rapid vehicle availability.

The renewable fuel supplied at the station comes from Calgren’s network of dairy biodigesters, which capture methane emitted by local dairy farms and convert it into renewable natural gas for transportation use. Instead of being released into the atmosphere, this methane is transformed into a low-carbon fuel capable of powering vehicles operating throughout the region.

For Calgren, the opening represents a milestone in its integrated approach to renewable energy. Travis Lane, CEO of the company, stated, “This facility connects the entire loop of what we do. We produce feed for dairy cows, capture the methane traditionally released by dairies, process it into renewable fuel, and put it directly into vehicles, including the trucks that transport our own products.”

The station is open to CNG-compatible vehicles, including cars, buses, and commercial fleets. Its fast-fueling capacity supports return-to-base operations and scheduled routes that require quick refueling as they seek to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
