Maruti Suzuki expands biogas capacity

New 10 tonnes per day biogas plant in Kharkhoda to be commissioned within FY 2026-27.

June 14, 2026. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced two biogas projects, reinforcing its commitment to building a clean energy ecosystem.

The company will set up a 10 tonnes per day (TPD) biogas plant at its Kharkhoda facility, which will be commissioned within FY 2026-27. As the second initiative, Maruti Suzuki has expanded the capacity of the biogas plant at its Manesar facility, from 0.2 TPD to 0.7 TPD.

Maruti Suzuki will be investing INR 150 crore for these two projects, underscoring its long-term vision to integrate renewable energy solutions into its operations. The company’s biogas initiatives are aligned with the Government’s broader ‘Waste-to-Wealth’ mission.

The 10 TPD biogas plant in Kharkhoda facility is expected to be commissioned within the current financial year. At full capacity, it will help in mitigating 9,490 tonnes of CO2 and will serve approximately 20% of the total gas requirement at the facility.

Early this month, the Company expanded its Manesar biogas plant to reach 0.7 TPD output from earlier 0.2 TPD. The plant is expected to generate approximately 3.6 lakh standard cubic meters of biogas annually, leading to an estimated avoidance of 664 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
