August 28, 2026. San Bartolomé reaffirms its commitment to more efficient and sustainable transport solutions by adding 90 new compressed natural gas (CNG) mixer trucks to Unicon’s fleet.
The symbolic ceremony took place at Unicon’s San Juan plant and brought together representatives from San Bartolomé, Unicon, Cálidda, and the Ministry of the Environment (Minam), all of whom highlighted the importance of continuing to promote lower-emission energy alternatives in the country.
The addition of these units is particularly significant as it coincides with another major milestone: Peru has reached the 10,000-vehicle mark for heavy-duty trucks operating on CNG. This reflects the advancement of the technology and the business sector’s growing confidence in natural gas as an operational alternative.
During the ceremony, Ernesto Zapata, General Manager of San Bartolomé, noted that this achievement is the result of nearly 18 years of collaboration with Unicon—a period during which both companies have progressively evaluated and solidified the use of this technology in the Peruvian market.
The executive recalled that when natural gas engines were first introduced, there were doubts regarding their performance and durability. However, operational experience has since demonstrated their efficiency and reliability.
He also highlighted that the new units feature Euro 6 technology, representing an improvement over previous emission standards. For Zapata, using natural gas also means leveraging a domestic resource and generating benefits throughout its supply chain.
Meanwhile, Raquel Soto, Deputy Minister of Environmental Management, noted that this progress contributes to the national energy transition and efforts to improve air quality. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of coordination between the public and private sectors to drive lower-emission technologies and advance toward more sustainable operations.
