July 12, 2022. Sagalés – Caldentey has formalized the purchase of seven Iveco Crossway Line model vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). These units, with the ECO label, are intended to operate school and discretionary transport services on the island of Mallorca, Spain, and are the first Iveco vehicles in the Spanish State with Step E technology in Euro 6 engines and powered by CNG.
It is a 13 meter long Iveco model adapted with a lifting platform for people with reduced mobility. They are equipped with the latest road safety technologies such as reverse parking sensors and cameras, as well as lane change cameras. They also incorporate the latest advances in reducing NOx and CO2 particle emissions.
The seven new coaches will be added to the current fleet that operates school and discretionary transport in the Llevant-Migjorn area, based in Felanitx. With a total of 20 units, the new fleet is intended for the execution of the different school transport contracts that have been won in the contest of the Conselleria d’Educació del Govern de les Illes Balears.
During his presentation, the CEO of Sagalés, Ramón Sagales, highlighted that “we are moving towards a horizon of trying to decarbonize the transport sector, something very difficult. We have to start taking small steps but gradually reduce the carbon footprint of the company. Transport generates many CO2 and NOx emissions and today it is very difficult to replace all vehicles with electric or hydrogen ones, but small changes are powerful and the fact of incorporating these natural gas units represents an investment and a innovation”.
The buses purchased have received a subsidy of 30,000 euros per unit granted by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, to transform the passenger and freight transport fleets of private road transport companies, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union “Next Generation EU”.
