February 25, 2022. The Camisea Consortium, operated by Pluspetrol, reported that at least 800 cars already have natural gas in Cusco, Peru, as part of the agreement for the Promotion and Development of the Use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for Vehicles, which seeks to promote its use in urban, interprovincial, cargo and passenger transport, and mining trucks, among others.
“Camisea is responsible for generating more than 40% of the electricity in Peru, this resource being a source of energy for more than 100.000 cars,” the Consortium said.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Camisea Consortium signed the aforementioned agreement in July 2021.
From this, Camisea will have 50 million cubic feet of natural gas per day (equivalent to more than 300.000 gallons of diesel per day) at a promotional price so that the distribution chain can liquefy it and offer it at a price 50% lower than diesel.
The Camisea Consortium produces 1.600 million cubic feet of natural gas daily, of which 600 million are for domestic consumption, the same amount for export, and 400 million are re-injected into the subsoil, because the necessary infrastructure does not exist, such as ducts and pipes, to take it to the entire country.
