Andi and Naturgas close alliance to boost the hydrogen market in Colombia

The National Association of Entrepreneurs of Colombia and the Colombian Association of Natural Gas announced a strategic alliance to consolidate and boost the hydrogen market in Colombia.

March 24, 2022. Hydrogen, a combustible and light gas, which is produced mostly from natural gas and renewable energies, is a highly strategic compound for the energy transition and the decarbonization of economies around the world. For this reason, the National Association of Entrepreneurs of Colombia (Andi) and the Colombian Association of Natural Gas (Naturgas) announced a strategic alliance to consolidate and boost the hydrogen market in Colombia.

The agreement, which will allow the creation of the Interunion Hydrogen Chamber, will bring the national supply closer to the potential industrial demand to encourage the consumption of this energy vector in the productive apparatus. In other words, Naturgas, which brings together the main companies that develop hydrogen, and which, in turn, have the infrastructure to transport it, will partner with Andi, which concentrates the companies that would use hydrogen the most and that develop renewable energy projects, to accelerate the growth of this economic sector.

“The fact that two of the country’s most emblematic associations come together to promote the use of clean fuel gas, such as hydrogen, is a sign of private commitment to the country’s decarbonization goals. The environment does not wait, it is time to take decisive measures; therefore, counting on Andi to promote the consumption of hydrogen is cause for celebration for the natural gas industry”, said Luz Stella Murgas, President of Naturgas.

For his part, Bruce Mac Master, President of Andi, stated that “hydrogen is a fundamental compound for the competitiveness of companies. The installed capacity that Colombia has, the abundant access to natural gas, the low prices and the green properties of hydrogen, constitute a very representative incentive for productive activities in the country”.
