May 29, 2022. The Minister of Transport, Alexis Guerrera, and the comptroller of the National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS), Federico Bernal, signed a cooperation agreement to promote the transformation of cargo and passenger transport to natural gas.
The agreement is valid for two years and can be extended and its objective is to establish a liaison environment between both agencies to address issues related to their respective areas of responsibility, regarding current and potential users of the Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) system.
In this regard, the Minister of Transport stated: “It is essential for us to work in a coordinated manner with ENARGAS and the Argentine Compressed Natural Gas Association to guarantee, on the one hand, the provision of CNG to the vehicle fleet that already exists and, on the other, to be able to deploy this alternative fuel in passenger and cargo automotive transport.”
And he added that: “This is an intermediate step in the transformation of the energy matrix of transport, with which we are moving towards a more sustainable mobility that will allow us to comply with our international climate commitments and ensure a better quality of life for the current and future generations”.
In relation to this, Bernal expressed that “with Minister Guerrera we agree and share as a strategic vision the neuralgic importance of gas in all its modalities, and a country without a competitive and reliable transportation system, even more so one the size of ours, will be eternally postponed. Argentina has Vaca Muerta, the second unconventional gas reserve in the world and within the framework of our respective powers, we propose, with the Minister, a coordinated and efficient work to make natural gas the key transition energy source of the national transportation system.”
