ATU publishes environmental monitoring plan for cleaner and more sustainable transport

The Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao, Peru, approved its Air and Noise Environmental Quality Monitoring Plan 2024-2026.

December 11, 2024. With the aim of generating valuable data for the design of new policies and projects focused on promoting more environmentally friendly means of transport, the Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU), an entity attached to the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru, approved its Air and Noise Environmental Quality Monitoring Plan 2024-2026.

The ATU maintained that detailed monitoring of air quality is essential to identify sources of pollution and evaluate the impact of the measures that are being implemented by the authority. This information will be essential to consolidate initiatives that reduce emissions and promote cleaner technologies in public transport.

In this sense, the ATU seeks to position itself as a benchmark in the fight against urban pollution, aligning itself with global environmental sustainability standards. In addition to environmental monitoring, progress continues with the scrapping of old vehicles, the purpose of which is to ensure compliance with regulations by eliminating obsolete units over 15 years old and replacing them with vehicles that operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) or electric technologies.
