April 21, 2025. Within the framework of the 2025 Initial Public Accountability Report, the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, Alejandro Gallardo, detailed the progress and goals of the Bolivian energy sector, focused on reducing dependence on fossil fuels, strengthening industrialization, and positioning the country as a regional leader in clean energy.
The energy sector has scheduled an investment of Bs 5,953.75 million for 2025, distributed as follows: YPFB with Bs 2,221.23 million (hydrocarbon exploration and production); ABEN with Bs 719.88 million (nuclear energy); EEC-GNV: Bs 274.76 million (vehicle conversion to natural gas); ENDE with Bs 2,471.74 million; YLB with Bs 126.94 million; Electrification and Technical Assistance Programs with Bs 67.38 million; and the EBIH with Bs 71.82 million.
Regarding natural gas vehicles, Gallardo projects 25,200 vehicle conversions to compressed natural gas (CNG) in 2025 and 33,700 cylinder requalifications and maintenance of conversion equipment in the departments of La Paz, Oruro, Potosí, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, and Chuquisaca. Another notable aspect is the reduction of state subsidies through concrete actions to reduce dependence on fuel imports.
