March 17, 2021. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs and the Reserves Trust of the Dominican Republic launched the new “Administration Trust for the Natural Gas Massification Program (MASGAS)” to promote the expansion of the unconventional vehicle fleet and the diversification of energy sources.
The MASGAS Trust has an equity of 100 million pesos for historical flows from the Development Margin of Natural Gas Vehicles (MDGNV) applied to importing companies of this fuel.
Minister Víctor Bisonó explained that “it is an initiative that arises from the country vision that the government of President Luis Abinader has been promoting, such as the consolidation of the unconventional vehicle fleet through the diversification of energy sources in transport, always bearing in mind that our main goal is to migrate towards sustainable mobility”.
He pointed out that transforming the vehicle fleet to natural gas entails high costs for the final consumer and that, therefore, MASGAS will facilitate the purchase of conversion kits, periodic maintenance of the equipment and its monitoring, through the Sales Control System (SICOEX).
The official reported that they also “promote an efficient permit system for the sale of this type of fuel, providing support both for the opening of new projects for the sale of natural gas, as well as for the inclusion of this fluid in existing stations that comply with with the distance parameters and safety standards”.
Finally, Bisonó explained that the fund promotes the reduction of dependence on petroleum derivatives, in order to comply with the commitments acquired in international agreements related to the protection and preservation of the environment and the reduction of atmospheric pollution.
