May 27, 2025. Dorset-based renewable energy firm Eco Sustainable Solutions announced its plans for a new biomethane refueling depot at its Eco Park site in Parley, United Kingdom. This marks a major step in its mission to support the decarbonization of HGV transport—not just for its own fleet, but potentially for others in the region too.
The depot will use renewable biomethane gas made from food waste that’s collected locally, including from Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and the New Forest. It’s a closed-loop solution: waste from the community is transformed into clean fuel that powers the vehicles serving that same community.
Eco now submitted a planning application for the site, which will be supplied by its new anaerobic digestion facility—currently under construction and set to be commissioned in November 2025.
Once complete, the depot will be capable of refueling three HGVs at once. It’s a cornerstone of its broader carbon reduction strategy, which includes converting its own fleet to run on biomethane. The company estimates this facility could cut carbon dioxide emissions by at least 1,634 tonnes each year.
Justin Dampney, Managing Director of Eco Sustainable Solutions, said: “By using fuel derived from the food waste we process, the depot will help reduce emissions where it’s traditionally been hardest – heavy goods transport. This isn’t just a solution for our fleet. In time, the depot could provide clean fuel for other operators too – all powered by local food waste.”
