ENAP announces the addition of natural gas trucks to its vehicle fleet

The National Petroleum Company of Chile announced the replacement of part of its fleet of diesel trucks that transport fuel between the regions of Valparaíso and Biobío, for units that run on natural gas.

February 8, 2023. The National Petroleum Company (ENAP) of Chile announced the replacement of part of its fleet of diesel trucks that transport fuel between the regions of Valparaíso and Biobío, for units that run on natural gas.

These are ten Scania trucks G 410 A6x2NA Euro 6 model, which have an approximate range of 1,100 kilometers, which – according to estimates – will reduce CO2 emissions by between 15% and 20% and 90% of the particulate matter generated by their similes. that run on diesel.

The tender carried out by the state company was awarded to the contractor Transviña, which will keep the 10 vehicles operating permanently. The machines will transfer the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) produced by ENAP at its Hualpén and Concón refineries to the distribution centers of the state-owned company in Longaví (Maule region) and San Fernando (O’Higgins region).

This project materializes after two pilot initiatives carried out by ENAP with the automotive companies Scania and Iveco, supported at that time by the Ministry of Energy and whose objective was to contribute to the evaluation of solutions for decarbonization.

The use of this technology not only has environmental benefits, since greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, but also in terms of costs, because fuel costs are reduced.
