February 26, 2024. The joint venture formed by Gasnam-Neutral Transport and 1A Ingenieros has been selected by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), after a public bidding process, to carry out pre-feasibility studies for biomethane projects for use in transportation. The project will be aimed exclusively at the production and consumption of biomethane for heavy transportation.
Through a preliminary evaluation of the available technical solutions, the financial needs and the possible obstacles to their implementation, these studies will provide the petitioners with a solid basis that can guide them in deciding the convenience of undertaking said projects and their economic potential.
The initiative aims to promote the development of biogas in Spain following the guidelines included in the Biogas Roadmap and in the draft update of the PNIEC (2023-2030), which establishes a production objective of 20 TWh in 2030 and the use of 28% renewable energy in transportation.
Applicants, who will be able to access the service for free, must be waste generators, such as agricultural holdings, industries or others (excluding FORSU, but including landfill biogas or WWTP sludge), that contemplate the use of biomethane in fleets of heavy vehicles.
These studies will be especially oriented to the use in heavy vehicles that provide municipal public transport services, urban collection and cleaning, emergencies, civil protection and local police.
