August 28, 2025. Diversifying the energy basket is one of the key objectives pursued by Iran’s Government to address energy imbalances. In this regard, increasing the share of CNG to 30 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) is among the initiatives being implemented to achieve fuel diversification.
As part of the initiatives, 16 CNG stations have been commissioned in the provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, Lorestan, Kerman, Razavi Khorasan, and others. In addition, the construction of 20 new CNG stations, with private sector participation, is currently underway for commissioning in 2025.
For the purpose of building new stations, particularly in underprivileged and priority regions, the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) has submitted a request for financing 100 stations.
In support of production and the conversion of public vehicles to dual-fuel systems, 344,938 vehicles have been manufactured or converted to dual-fuel since the August last year. Furthermore, the replacement of 14,086 worn-out and expired taxi cylinders has been completed.
Since the August last year, in addition to settling overdue payments of CNG conversion workshops, a support contract was signed with automakers Iran Khodro and Zamyad for the production of 75,000 dual-fuel vehicles.
