October 29, 2022. As of November and in alliance with Grupo San Gabriel, Nestlé Chile will begin operating 30 trucks that are supplied with liquefied natural gas (LNG), which will mean a significant reduction in CO2 emissions (15% less compared to diesel), allowing a journey with a range of up to 1,400 kilometers on route 5 south.
LNG is a fuel that reduces CO2 emissions by 20% and eliminates 96% of solid particle emissions. In addition, natural gas trucks contribute to a considerable reduction in noise pollution. These are some of the benefits that motivated Nestlé Chile to launch a new sustainable fleet of LNG-based trucks, the largest to circulate in the country.
“At Nestlé we are constantly looking for associative and regenerative projects that seek a positive impact on the environment, in line with our purpose of developing all the power of food to improve the quality of life, today and for future generations, for which we are very happy to take this important step that will have a positive impact on our planet and the communities where we operate”, said Peter Weber, Director of Supply Chain of Nestlé Chile.
This fleet of trucks is part of the company’s commitment to its sustainable development strategy, which seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout its value chain. In this sense, Nestlé works to create a cleaner and more efficient logistics network, whether in the optimization of routes, efficiency in filling transport cargo and through suppliers that use low-emission fuels.
