NGV Italy highlights government support for road transport within the framework of the Automotive Green Deal

They expect a finally pragmatic and technologically neutral approach that overcomes the ideological rigidities of the past.

December 11, 2025. Mariarosa Baroni, President of NGV Italy, stated that the decree from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT), allocating €590 million over five years to renew the commercial vehicle fleets of road transport and logistics companies, “is a significant public contribution that comes at a crucial time for the sector, on the eve of the European Commission’s proposal to revise the Automotive Green Deal.” In this regard, the executive added that they expect a finally pragmatic and technologically neutral approach that overcomes the ideological rigidities of the past.

The President of NGV Italy continued: “Now we need to foster a high level of collaboration with all stakeholders, establishing a dedicated forum that includes not only the trade associations meeting on December 16th, but also the leading automotive and energy industry associations. This will allow us to implement a truly effective mechanism capable of providing concrete support to road transport companies in the technological modernization of their fleets.”

In conclusion, Baroni outlined some strategic priorities for the new measure: “It is necessary to agree on a resource allocation that adequately incentivizes all technologies, particularly those most in demand by the market—diesel and biodiesel, C-LNG and Bio-C-LNG, as well as electric vehicles—in accordance with the principle of technological neutrality. We must also jointly discuss a new reimbursement system for companies that is more efficient and fairer than the current one: it is unacceptable that road transport companies have to wait up to three years to receive reimbursement of the MIT incentive.”
