January 3, 2022. In order to promote the change in the energy matrix of the automotive fleet and orient it to the use of natural gas vehicles (NGV), the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) ordered the transfer of S/200 million to implement, through Corporación Financiera de Desarrollo SA (COFIDE), a program to convert vehicles that use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to NGV.
The General Directorate of Hydrocarbons (DGH) of the MINEM specified that with these conversions it is intended that drivers, mainly taxi drivers and transporters, have access to NGV, a more economical and sustainable fuel, so that they are not affected by the strong volatility of international prices of oil, which affect LPG at the local level.
In this sense, through Emergency Decree No. 109-2021, the Government issued provisions to ensure compliance with the payment of the obligations assumed with the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund (FEPC), as well as to promote access to NGV and automotive LPG.
The norm contemplates, in addition to the transfer of S/200 million for vehicular conversions from LPG to NGV, the creation of temporary programs to promote access to automotive LPG in areas where there is still no supply of natural gas, with resources from the Fund of Social Energy Inclusion (FISE).
