May 5, 2022. The mayor of the Spanish municipality of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo, has presented the new five buses that are going to be incorporated into the fleet of the municipal public transport service, replacing many others that have already reached their useful life.
In his speech to the media, the official highlighted the City Council’s commitment to a quality transport service for the people of Salamanca, which is also respectful of the environment and in line with its objectives of being a green and responsible city in the fight against climate change.
Along these lines, he recalled that Salamanca has one of the most ecological bus services in the entire country and that it also offers one of the cheapest rates in Spain, while enjoying an excellent rating by users who, according to the latest satisfaction survey of municipal services, they give it a notable mark.
As he has detailed, the new five buses that will begin to circulate in the coming days are powered by natural gas, comply with the European emission standard Euro 6 and have involved an investment of almost 1.3 million euros.
Each of the new vehicles has 23 seats and two central spaces for wheelchairs; They are equipped with a double ramp, automatic and manual, to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility and have an automatic fire-fighting system for the engine compartment.
In addition, they are equipped with USB chargers on the central platforms; rear view camera for reversing, acoustic and visual indicators for warning of the next stop and electronic line indicator signs. In the same way, they have the free Wi-Fi service like the rest of the buses in the Salamanca urban transport fleet.
It should be noted that the service fleet in Salamanca consists of a total of 62 vehicles, of which 73% are natural gas-powered.
