December 26, 2023. The Westfalen Group will be relying on CO2-neutral Bio-LNG (liquefied biogas) for its mobility customers in the freight forwarding and logistics sector.
With immediate effect, the fuel produced from liquefied biomethane is replacing its fossil counterpart at the four Westfalen LNG filling stations in Münster, Herford, Herne and Cologne. All commercially available LNG vehicles can also be refueled with Bio-LNG without any problems.
Westfalen will provide its customers with proof of the actual CO2 savings depending on the amount of Bio-LNG used.
“Bio-LNG allows CO2 savings of up to 100%. In addition, hardly any nitrogen oxides and particulate matter are released during combustion. This makes the fuel very attractive for our customers who want to offer their freight services in a more sustainable way,” said Andre Stracke, Head of Mobility at Westfalen.
The switch to Bio-LNG is made possible by a cooperation between Westfalen and revis bioenergy GmbH that was established in March 2023. The Münster-based company produces bio-methane exclusively from waste and residual materials from regional sources. Bio-LNG is produced when bio-methane is liquefied using pressure and cold.
