October 19, 2025. Skellefteå Buss has ordered 16 Scania Fencer f6 buses to run on biogas, complementing the 35 biogas-powered vehicles it already has in its fleet. The buses will operate in the regional traffic of the municipality, which is almost the size of the province of Skåne, Sweden.
Skellefteå Buss was an early adopter of renewable natural gas, coinciding with the commissioning of the municipality’s biogas plant in 2007. The bus company’s largest depot is fueled directly from the facility in the Tuvan region.
The Scania Fencer f6 was launched in France in 2021 and has since been sold in several European countries. During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, 80 Fencer f6 units were used to travel between different competition areas. The current bus for traffic in Skellefteå is a two-axle, 12.5-meter-long bus with a capacity of 51 people.
“Our goal is to completely switch to electricity and biogas. However, given our large area, there are challenges with electric operation, as some of our lines are long and reach more remote rural locations. At the same time, the infrastructure is being expanded,” says Christoffer Wadén, Production Manager at Skellefteå Buss.
Skellefteå Buss currently has 120 buses, of which 12 are electric, 73 diesel units run on HVO, and 35 are fueled by biogas.
