June 19, 2026. MetroEnergía, Metrogas’s natural gas marketing company, became the supplier for Metropol’s new bus fleet, which incorporated its first compressed natural gas (CNG) units on line 109 in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The project entails a complete renewal of the operation with 150 vehicles and marks a milestone for sustainable mobility and the energy transition in public transportation.
The project, developed in conjunction with Metropol, began to materialize with the incorporation of the first 11 units, which are already in service on line 109, and is expected to complete the fleet renewal with a total of 150 vehicles in the coming months.
“This project demonstrates the potential of natural gas as an efficient, competitive, and environmentally friendly alternative for urban mobility. Our challenge is to support operators with reliable energy solutions that allow them to develop their operations with predictability and continuity,” stated Pablo De Cicco, Commercial Development Manager for Large Accounts and Other Businesses at MetroEnergía.
To make this operation possible, the energy supplier guaranteed the continuous supply of natural gas to the dedicated refueling station that serves the fleet, located in the Barracas neighborhood of Buenos Aires, ensuring the energy availability required for an essential service like public transportation.
The initiative represents a significant step forward in the incorporation of alternative fuels in passenger transport and opens new opportunities to accelerate the energy transformation of urban and long-distance fleets.
