New vehicles dedicated to natural gas arrive in Colombia

The Dongfeng brand, in alliance with Gases del Caribe, Promigas and Surtigas, presented four new models of trucks and buses dedicated 100% to natural gas.

October 5, 2021. The Dongfeng brand, in alliance with Gases del Caribe, Promigas and Surtigas, presented four new models of trucks and buses dedicated 100% to compressed natural gas (CNG) to the passenger and heavy duty transport of Barranquilla, Colombia, to encourage their acquisition and continue to improve the air quality of the country.

The arrival of these brands demonstrates the positioning of CNG as a clean and transitional fuel in Colombia and in the world, and as a great technical, economic and environmental alternative not only for mass transportation systems in the main cities of the country, but also for the cargo transportation segment, which, making use of other fossil fuels, represents more than 60% of the pollution in Colombia.

“At Gases del Caribe we have been developing different strategies to stimulate the purchase of these vehicles dedicated 100% to CNG in order to contribute to the improvement of air quality throughout the national territory, in addition to reducing fuel costs and developing more competitive industries at a national and international level”, expressed Mario Cuello, Distribution Deputy Manager of Gases del Caribe.

Natural gas vehicles are backed by the factory; Proof of this is that there are currently more than 24 recognized brands, such as Dongfeng, that market gas-fueled units with a guarantee of origin.

Most of these vehicles are designed for public service and cargo transportation, which have high demands on working hours and mileage.

For his part, Ivan Martínez, Surtigas Commercial Manager, expressed that Promigas and Surtigas have been supporting these initiatives with the aim of accelerating the energy transition throughout the Colombian territory and thus stimulating the national economy through the implementation of environmentally friendly fuels in the passenger and heavy duty transport.

Meanwhile, CNG reduces the amounts of CO2 discharged into the environment by up to 40% according to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), making it the most friendly fossil fuel with air quality and climate change.
