October 8, 2022. As part of its ongoing efforts to decrease its carbon footprint and assist Nigeria in meeting its quota for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Treepz Inc, a leading mobility platform, has teamed with FEMADEC Group to deploy natural gas-powered mass transit buses in Lagos, Nigeria, via its Nigerian subsidiary Treepz Nigeria.
Johnny Enagwolor, President and Co-Founder of Treepz Inc., talked about the partnership, which began with buses running on different routes in Lagos. “Together, Treepz and FEMADEC can help eliminate carbon emissions in Lagos and soften the blow when there is a petrol shortage. With more ecologically suitable buses on our highways, we will significantly reduce dangerous vehicular emissions that endanger our health.”
CEO of FEMADEC Group, Mr. Fola Akinola, says that this partnership is part of the company’s plan to promote a greener transport ecosystem in Africa. “Working with partners who care about sustainability as much as we do, like Treepz, will help us reach our goals. Through this partnership, we hope to be at the forefront of green transportation innovations in Nigeria,” he explained.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) says that the road transportation industry in Lagos is the main cause of air and noise pollution and is responsible for 50% of the greenhouse gases released by Nigeria’s transportation industry. Given the reliability of this conclusion, organizations within the private sector must assist the government’s efforts by adopting modes of transportation that are safer and friendlier to the environment.
Through this partnership with FEMADEC, Treepz is actively supporting the Federal Government’s gas vehicle policy, which was started by President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2020 and is already in its pilot phase.
