January 17, 2023. For the Lyon Metropolis, air quality is a fundamental issue. Thus, numerous actions have been carried out, in particular the deployment of the “ZFE Grand Lyon” (low emission zone). It is therefore natural that it has chosen green vehicles to renew its fleet dedicated to water purification.
“Natural gas is currently the only reliable technology for this type of use, responding to EPZs and allowing us to move away from diesel engines. With our new natural gas Iveco S-Ways, we benefit from the same performance as diesel, be it in terms of range, payload or even power, while minimizing our impact on the environment. And these trucks have been very well received by drivers, who especially appreciate their silence, their comfort, their maneuverability, their driving flexibility and their power”, explained Bruno Wendling, head of Mechanized Interventions of the Operations Directorate of Water – ESX, from Lyon.
CNG vehicles fall into the Crit’Air 1 category, which guarantees carriers unrestricted access to the ZFE where they operate. They significantly reduce emissions of local pollutants, such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and fine particulates, compared to a state-of-the-art diesel unit, while benefiting from the same performance. For carriers who have chosen Bio-NGV, they also drastically reduce CO2 emissions. Pieck Quiet Truck 71 dB certified, these trucks guarantee silent missions day and night.
These two injection machines were put into operation in November 2022. They are the result of collaboration between the Iveco France teams and the Kaiser Moro coachbuilder.
