January 31, 2023. The Minas Gerais Gas Company (Gasmig), Brazil, will reduce the price of natural gas for vehicles (NGV) by 9.19% for retail stations.
The President of Gasmig, Gilberto Valle, points out that the measure will provide greater competitiveness and reduce costs for drivers who use this fuel.
“Our pricing policy is in line with the guidelines of the State Government, which is focused on contributing to improving the lives of the inhabitants. The benefits of reducing the price of NGV will be immediate. Drivers will feel the savings in their pockets when refueling”, says Valle.
The fall in the international value of a barrel of oil and the greater stability of the exchange rate were reflected in the decrease in the cost of acquiring the gas supplied by Petrobras. These factors allowed the price charged by Gasmig to drop. The new rate was ratified by the regulator, the Secretary of State for Economic Development (Sede).
The expectation of the President of Gasmig is that the 9.19% reduction in the value of NGV for retail stations is immediately perceived by drivers. If the reduction percentage is transferred in its entirety to the users, the drop must be R$ 0.40/m³ at the pump.
Gilberto Valle indicates that, with this transfer forecast, the economy of the driver who circulates with natural gas should reach 30% in relation to those who use other fuels. “The new tariff will make gas even more competitive in relation to gasoline and ethanol. The driver will work much more with NGV,” he says.
A simulation carried out by Gasmig technicians, taking into account the fall in the price of NGV, and considering the recent increase in the price of ethanol and gasoline, shows that natural gas continues to be the most economical fuel.
