August 19, 2026. Following a series of meetings between authorities, distribution companies, and representatives of the smaller public transportation sector, a public-private technical coordination effort was established to address the problems experienced with the supply of compressed natural gas (CNG) for vehicles in Punta Arenas, Chile.
The information was released by the Secretary of Energy, Marco Antonio Pinto, who explained that the discussions have allowed for the creation of a work plan with defined deadlines to advance short- and medium-term solutions.
The meetings included representatives from Gasco, the company responsible for natural gas distribution in the region, as well as Copec and Aramco, companies that currently provide natural gas service for vehicles.
The official emphasized the importance of accelerating the agreed-upon processes, considering the direct impact that the difficulties in CNG supply have on the operation of smaller public transportation.
The situation has been addressed in conjunction with representatives of taxis and buses.
The objective of the public-private coordination is to advance in concrete solutions that allow the recovery of the normality of the CNG refueling service, fundamental for the operation of the smaller public transport and for thousands of users of the commune.
