November 9, 2024. Iveco is the only manufacturer to offer a utility vehicle that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG) and Bio-CNG. Available in van and chassis-cab versions, the Daily CNG/Bio-CNG is available with a GVW from 3.5 to 7.2 t. With its 3-litre engine, developing a power of 136 hp and a torque of 350 Nm, the Daily is ideal for urban activities in Crit’Air 1.
Storing gas at 200 bar pressure, the compressed gas tanks are distributed under the chassis and in an additional rack offered as an option by the manufacturer. This option includes five tanks in the rear of the passenger compartment and offers a total of 552 litres of CNG/Bio-CNG capacity (86 kg usable), which doubles the range compared to the standard version, i.e. 500 km.
This design allows the Breton company MAXICARGO to adapt its solution to increase the payload and range of the Daily CNG/Bio-CNG.
The MAXICARGO concept is an ultra-compact 3.5 t trailer that is fixed like a semi-trailer and covers the rear of the towing vehicle. To avoid the swaying effect, the trailer is guided by the vehicle. Everything is perfectly stable on the road. It is also very compact, with only 50 cm more length than a 3.5 t utility vehicle with the same bodywork. In the MAXICARGO configuration the bodywork is fixed to the trailer chassis and no longer to the vehicle chassis.
This is a new type of compact and highly safe trailer hitch that uses the GVWR (Gross Authorised Rolling Weight) of the vehicle. The only difference with a unit towing a standard trailer is the extreme compactness allowed by the tow hook located behind the cab. The trailer “disappears” visually as it approaches the vehicle.
This solution allows the payload to be increased, up to 2,000 kg in the van version and 1,600 kg in the refrigerated version, while maintaining the utility vehicle configuration (BE trailer permit), allowing heavy loads to be transported without the need for a heavy vehicle licence.
