Argentine transportation company tests natural gas truck in Santa Fe

The Domingo Bisio transport company has tested a Stralis Hi-Road truck fueled with compressed natural gas to make its daily trips.

August 24, 2021. The Domingo Bisio transport company has tested a Stralis Hi-Road truck fueled with compressed natural gas (CNG) to make its daily trips. The tested vehicle is powered by a 330 hp FPT Industrial Cursor 8 engine with 1,300 Nm of torque, with a capacity of up to 720 liters.

“We did a 15-day test with Ternium, one of our main clients. The route with loading of steel coils started at its Ramallo plant, passed through the Ensenada plant and then went to Canning, returning empty to the point of origin. The Stralis Hi-Road CNG made the trip accompanied by a truck of similar characteristics powered by diesel in order to compare fuel consumption and road performance. We are still analyzing the preliminary results, but we can say that the experience it was fully satisfactory. It really saves on the cost of fuel,” argued Juan I. Bisio, General Manager of the company.

The firm chose to develop its tests with Ternium, one of the most important steel production companies in the country, with shipments of more than 2.1 million tons per year. “It is essential for us to be able to have suppliers that apply technologies to improve transportation and be increasingly sustainable. At Ternium we are working hard on decarbonizing our processes, so reducing the impact of logistics movements contributes to achieving this shared objective”, stated Juan Iocco, Supply Chain Director of Ternium in Argentina.
