Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and Clermont Auvergne Métropole accelerate the decarbonisation of mobility

Compressed natural gas (CNG) will benefit in 2023 from the local supply of biogas from neighboring VALTOM, while Bio-CNG is a local and renewable resource.

April 15, 2022. Olivier Bianchi, President of Clermont Auvergne Métropole and Mayor of Clermont-Ferrand, and Frédéric Bonnichon, Vice President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region in charge of Environment and Positive Ecology, celebrated the first anniversary of the refilling of alternative fuels (CNG/Bio-CNG) in the presence of Laurent Cheroux, Commercial Director of GNVERT. Compressed natural gas (CNG) will benefit in 2023 from the local supply of biogas from neighboring VALTOM, while Bio-CNG is a local and renewable resource. These two fuels of the future, distributed for a year by the plant, thus contribute to accelerating the energy transition of the territory.

As part of its economic and energy development, Clermont Auvergne Métropole responded to the GNVolont’air call for projects launched by ADEME and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region for the creation of a CNG/Bio-CNG station. This installation, created by ENGIE Solutions, responds to the growing needs of public and private actors mobilized in favor of more sustainable modes of travel and interested in acquiring clean vehicles. It was put into service in March 2021.

Supporting territories in the energy transition by greening their energies and resources, ENGIE Solutions, through its GNVERT natural gas sustainable mobility offer, operates more than 70 public stations in France that distribute natural gas for vehicles (NGV), including ten establishments within the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region.

For Olivier Bianchi, Mayor of Clermont-Ferrand and President of Clermont Auvergne Métropole, “this facility is one more step in the energy transition of our metropolis in terms of mobility. This is a great challenge and an absolute priority. We must move towards carbon neutral fuels to limit the impact of public and individual means of transport on the climate”.
