March 9, 2026. During India Energy Week 2026 in Goa, Mariarosa Baroni, President of NGV Italy, participated as a speaker in the energy roundtables hosted by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Baroni reaffirmed Italy’s leadership in a pragmatic green transition thanks to highly innovative technologies.
At the WEF’s request, a meeting was held on Monday, March 2, 2026, to discuss potential avenues for collaboration in the areas of green fuels and the energy transition. Representing the WEF were Espen Mehlum, Energy Director at the Energy and Materials Centre; Alma Chen, Emerging Markets Specialist; and Sakshi Vohra, Strategy and Operations Specialist.
Following a brief presentation on NGV Italy’s activities, the WEF outlined the current priorities of the Energy and Materials Centre.
Its goal is to accelerate the global transition to green energy, with a focus on clean fuels, green molecules, and innovation in the electricity sector. As a platform operating across the public and private sectors, the World Economic Forum seeks to expand its global network of partners and strengthen collaboration in key areas, particularly in India and Europe.
A significant part of the discussion centered on expanding the community.
The WEF noted that Italy’s active participation is currently limited and therefore expressed interest in strengthening Italian representation. Thanks to the commitment of NGV Italy and its President to supporting the energy transition within the European Union, internationally, and within institutions, the Forum has identified Italy as a potential European leader in the dialogue on clean fuels, contributing to the broader objective of strengthening Europe’s role in supporting the energy transition.
Subsequently, the WEF invited NGV Italy to join its clean fuels community, bringing together selected companies for specific discussions and including Mariarosa Baroni in the Global Community of Experts of the Indian Innovation Ecosystem.
