CNG conversion of vehicles increased during the year 2023 in Colombia

The conversion of vehicles to natural gas increased 62.66% in the previous year, going from 14,372 in 2022 to 23,378 in 2023.

January 23, 2024. According to the most recent analysis carried out by the Colombian Natural Gas Association (Naturgas), the conversion of vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) increased 62.66% in the previous year, going from 14,372 in 2022 to 23,378 in 2023. Bucaramanga, Bogotá, Barranquilla and Medellín were the cities with the most vehicles converted to natural gas with increases of up to 196% compared to 2022.

Faced with the entry of new units with dedicated CNG engines to the market, during the year 2023, the entry of 342 vehicles was recorded, of which 310 correspond to heavy-duty vehicles with a capacity equal to or greater than 10.5 tons, which represented a positive variation of 20% in this segment; while, for cargo vehicles with a maximum capacity of 10.5 tons, the increase was 50%, an important step in the cargo transportation segment towards sustainable mobility.

This industry has had great interest in the development of this energy in the transportation sector due to the great economic and environmental benefits, positioning itself as the best alternative, both in the cargo segment and in passenger transportation,” stated Luz Stella Murgas, President of Naturgas.
