Solaris to deliver more than 300 CNG buses in the city of Rome

The Polish manufacturer Solaris won the two lots of the tender launched by Giubileo 2025 for the acquisition of about 400 buses, of which more than 300 are equipped with CNG engines.

September 1, 2023. In Italy, the Polish manufacturer Solaris won the two lots of the tender launched by Giubileo 2025 for the acquisition of about 400 buses, of which more than 300 are equipped with compressed natural gas (CNG) engines.

If Europe threatens to eventually ban the sale of thermal buses, operators continue to believe in the CNG solution. While the RATP has started a massive transition of its fleet to biogas in the Paris region, the Italian operator Giubileo 2025 has just awarded a major order to Solaris for the city of Rome.

Competing with Mercedes and Iveco, the Polish manufacturer took control of both lots of the market. The first refers to the supply of 110 hybrid articulated buses while the second provides for the acquisition of 322 CNG units. It should be noted that this second lot is divided into two tranches. The first refers to the immediate acquisition of 244 vehicles. The supply of the remaining 78 buses is subject to the approval of the new service by ATAC, the agency in charge of mobility in the Italian capital.
