Cummins Peru installed CNG engines in public transport bus fleet

Cummins Peru participated in the ceremony celebrating the conversion of 100 public transport vehicles to CNG.

April 22, 2025. The conversion of diesel vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) has become established in Peru as a key step toward a more sustainable, clean, and efficient mobility system.

For this reason, and in line with its commitment to environmental protection and the promotion of clean energy sources for more sustainable mobility, Cummins Peru participated in the ceremony celebrating the conversion of 100 public transport vehicles to CNG. This initiative was promoted by Prominpro, through its authorized workshop for the conversion of diesel engines to natural gas.

Of the total conversions performed at Prominpro’s workshop, 30 were with Cummins engines, as a result of a strategic alliance between the two companies, aimed at taking a firm step toward more efficient, economical, and sustainable public transport.

The engine model used is the Cummins L8.9G, launched two years ago in the urban transport market. It is designed for transport applications requiring high efficiency in natural gas consumption, cleaner, more eco-friendly, and more economical energy compared to diesel engines.

“With its integrated technology, we comply with the strictest environmental emissions standards required by the region, such as Euro 5 and Euro 6. This engine offers a wide range of power required for urban transport, from 250 to 300 horsepower,” explained Blanca Mondragón, Director of Engines and Aftersales at Cummins Peru.
