October 29, 2023. Cummins Peru presented the B6.7N ‘Near Zero’ engine, the first of its kind in the Peruvian market, which, due to its innovation, is designed to drastically reduce polluting emissions to almost zero, raising standards of sustainability and environmental responsibility in the automotive industry.
Given its characteristics, this engine currently becomes the most eco-friendly on the local market.
”We are constantly searching for responsible solutions to address environmental challenges and mitigate climate change”, commented Erick Ruiz, General Manager of Cummins Peru.
This new entry in the Cummins portfolio, B6.7N ‘Near Zero’, is certified with the California Air Resources Board’s Optional Low NOx standard of 0.01 g/bhphr. hour), representing a 50% reduction in NOx emissions compared to current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
In addition, this engine meets the 2017 EPA Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions requirements. That is, it met and exceeded the most important evaluations in the world and in its field.
The ‘Near Zero’ engine is an advanced natural gas solution that features innovations such as a new Engine Control Module (ECM) that monitors and controls engine sensors, fuel and ignition systems, ensuring optimal performance. Additionally, it offers on-board diagnostic (OBD) capability for continuous emissions monitoring.
It also incorporates a closed crankcase ventilation (CCV) system that promotes more complete combustion and a significant reduction in polluting emissions, and an enhanced three-way catalyst (TWC) that ensures constant emissions control without requiring additional maintenance.
Due to its technology, it is designed for trucks and buses, it uses natural gas as a fuel source, a low-carbon alternative widely available in Peru.
