Ensambladora Latinoamericana de Motores delivers 100 LNG trucks in Mexico

Ensambladora Latinoamericana de Motores (ELAM), the exclusive owner of the Chinese brand FAW in Mexico, delivered 100 trucks powered by liquefied natural gas.

October 7, 2021. Ensambladora Latinoamericana de Motores (ELAM), the exclusive owner of the Chinese brand FAW in Mexico, joined Trucka’s strategy to have a more sustainable fleet, by delivering 100 trucks powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).

“These vehicles provide twice the autonomy of compressed natural gas (CNG); the basic difference lies in the storage system”, commented Ernesto del Blanco Arjona, CEO of ELAM.

The units reduce CO2 emissions by 33%, which is equivalent to about 7,000 tons less to the environment, while in the matter of microparticles, this technology emits up to 99% less.

“We incorporate important technological advances with LNG, which is stored in a cryogenic process that provides greater capacity and autonomy,” said Guillermo Nivon, Manager of ELAM.

The manager of the transport firm said that although there was resistance from the operators, the commitment has been made. Another challenge faced is the infrastructure, since CNG provides less autonomy and there are not many refueling sites, “for this reason, we are developing our own infrastructure in the case of LNG,” they abounded from the company.

Currently there is a CNG network available, but there are other routes that are identified as lacking in infrastructure, and it is there where LNG is an option, for which it is estimated that this type of technology will become more popular in the future.

“Our plant could produce up to 250 trucks in a month; we also have CNG, LNG and diesel vehicles and a wide variety of models from 2 tons to trucks. Today, we are delivering these units assembled in record time in our country”, shared Del Blanco Arjona.
