May 29, 2023. The transportation company Expreso Brasilia put at the service of the community the first interdepartmental bus operated 100% by natural gas, a commitment to sustainability and the energy transition of Colombia.
The unit, which operates the Valledupar-Baranquilla-Valledupar route, has a natural gas technology engine that complies with the Euro 6 standard. According to the tests carried out, it presents a reduction in the emission of polluting gases of at least 64%, compared to a car with similar characteristics, making it more friendly to the environment.
The new equipment has three cylinders that store 1,071 liters of gas, which offers a range of 550 kilometers, enough to travel on the route from La Arenosa to the capital of Cesar, without the need to refuel on the way. Inside, the experience is comfortable and safe for passengers. With this vehicle, savings of 30% are estimated compared to other liquid fuels.
“This action is part of Expreso Brasilia’s commitment to sustainability. We take the first step towards a cleaner, more responsible and profitable operation, which contributes to the modernization and strengthening of the land transport sector. We are proud to be pioneers of this initiative”, indicated Alfredo de León Moreno, General Manager of Expreso Brasilia.
The gas bus has a Scania chassis and Marcopolo bodywork, has a capacity for 42 passengers, 24/7 satellite monitoring through the Expreso Brasilia operations center, space for users with reduced mobility, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, individual screens and a complete in-flight entertainment system with movies, music and series, which make the trip more comfortable and pleasant.
This project is a reality due to the combined efforts of Expreso Brasilia, Gases del Caribe, Promigas, Ecopetrol and Gazel, which sealed an alliance to embark on a new path for the sector. Expreso Brasilia is the leading passenger mobilization company in the Caribbean region, transporting 4.5 million people a year.
