December 8, 2024. The Mayor of the Mexican city of Hermosillo, Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez, participated in the inauguration of the first ONE-Zona Industrial Sur compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station.
“We are already witnesses to the benefits of natural gas, we have certainly celebrated the savings obtained. I want to congratulate the entire Simsa Group because they are truly an example; the energy transition means moving from polluting and expensive fuels to clean fuels, to clean energy generation sources such as natural gas,” he said.
The official specified that natural gas is the cleanest energy of all and, in addition, the most competitive, which began with the industry that was a watershed in terms of job creation and economic growth for the city with the arrival of the Ford plant.
“Today we have, for example, the green patrol units that use and consume natural gas, we even have garbage collectors that also use natural gas, we are already in the process of implementing new projects for sustainable mobility, such as more electric patrols and even electric garbage collectors,” he added.
After recognizing and congratulating Mayor Astiazarán and the municipal government of Hermosillo for obtaining first place in the Urban Competitiveness Index 2024, the Regional Manager of Gas Natural del Noroeste, Gustavo Pohls Vargas, recalled that in 1984 natural gas arrived in Hermosillo at the request of the Ford plant, which changed the city’s economy.
In 1998, the company laid the first pipes for residential distribution and already has 17 thousand users between industries, businesses, residences and families connected.
“Now it is the turn for vehicles as Hermosillo is a great attraction for investment. Thank you for your leadership, Mayor, and congratulations on the title of urban competitiveness, and may all this add a little more to the effort you are making. It is an honor for us to inaugurate it today and try to change this world a little from our position in the transition to green and clean fuels,” said the businessman.
