Holcim Mexico invests in gas-powered concrete mixers

Holcim Mexico acquired CNG ready-mix concrete mixers and mixers that comply with the strictest international regulations such as Euro V Diesel.

February 5, 2022. Holcim Group, through its Net Zero strategy (zero net emissions, with objectives validated by the Science Based Targets initiative SBTi), committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, thus becoming the industry benchmark for sustainable practices.

In line with this commitment, it invested a total of 6.2 million dollars in ecological solutions in Mexico to modernize its fleet of ready-mix concrete mixers in the country and increase the use of sustainable fuels in its transportation. In this sense, Holcim Mexico acquired two types of mixers to renew 11% of its total fleet: compressed natural gas (CNG) ready-mix concrete mixers and mixers that comply with the strictest international regulations such as Euro V Diesel, thus being the first country in Latin America of the Holcim Group to introduce these new technologies with higher capacities, low-emission engines and alternative fuels.

The first ready-mix concrete mixers that work with a 100% CNG engine, have many advantages compared to traditional diesel vehicles by reducing CO2 emissions by 25% and fine particles and nitrogen oxide by 25%, in addition to be less noisy, which allows them to operate at any time without causing problems for local residents.

Its design makes it possible to maximize the payload, which corresponds to 8 cubic meters of concrete, as well as to have greater maneuverability thanks to a shorter chassis and a smaller turning radius. All this brings with it a great benefit, especially in operations in cities. Another great advantage is that if there were an environmental contingency, this type of mixer would be allowed to continue circulating, given its efficiency in ensuring the reduction of its CO2 emissions.

Additionally, Holcim Mexico acquired Euro V Diesel ready-mix concrete mixers with a capacity of 10 cubic meters, with the aim of transporting more product in fewer trips, reducing the use of fuel for each transported cubic meter and increasing customer satisfaction through faster order fulfillment.
