Lagos to deploy CNG-enabled BRT shuttle

June 12, 2022. The eight Bus Rapid Transits (BRT) buses, which have been converted to run on compressed natural gas (CNG), will soon be deployed to begin commercial activity in Nigerian Lagos State, Commissioner for Transportation Frederic Oladeinde has said.

Oladeinde said the initiative is part of government’s efforts to reduce carbon emission and greenhouse gases (GHG) produced by fossil fuel transport systems.

The commissioner addressed a news conference to herald the maiden edition of a two-day National Transportation Technology Conference and Exhibition (NTTCE), which took place June 7-8 at Eko Hotels.

He added that concession operators are expected to convert their units to natural gas to support the government’s efforts.

The commissioner noted that the technology summit helped the commissioners to synergise strategies to achieve a greener technology-driven transport system in the country.
