December 22, 2021. Lipor invested 1.16 million euros in new compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks for the selective collection of bio-waste in the Portuguese municipalities where it operates. The delivery of the units, financed by the POSEUR Program, took place on December 15 at the company’s facilities.
“This investment reinforces the commitment of Lipor and associated municipalities to promote the selective collection of the bio-waste fraction (food and green), contributing to the fulfillment of Portugal’s goals and objectives before the European Union,” the company explains in a statement. In addition, it highlights that “the investment also results from the search for alternative solutions that help reduce air pollution and noise in large urban centers.”
CNG is one of the fuels that, both in terms of costs and environmental impact, due to the absence of sulfur, hydrocarbons and particles in the outlets and low CO2 emissions, contributes the most to the decarbonization objectives.
“It is an investment with a triple positive impact: increasing the amount of recyclables collected, complying with the obligation to implement the selective collection of bio-waste and reducing pollution in urban areas,” concludes the firm that serves the eight municipalities of the Porto Metropolitan Area.
