Lithuanian transport operator Vlantana acquires 65 LNG trucks

The company, which has a running park of 1,650 vehicles, is significantly extending its gas fleet with the new vehicles.

November 12, 2021. Iveco has completed the delivery of 65 S-Way trucks in liquefied natural gas (LNG) version to transport operator Vlantana. The company, which has a running park of 1,650 vehicles, is significantly extending its gas fleet with the new vehicles.

Founder of Vlantana Vladas Stončius stated: “Vlantana’s decision to convert part of our fleet to natural gas with Iveco S-Way LNG trucks is testament to our belief in sustainable and eco-friendly solutions as well as in the operational and financial benefits of gas. With our LNG vehicles, we will enjoy all the advantages of a truly sustainable and effective transport solution with best-in-class Total Cost of Ownership.”

The acquisition is a part of Vlantana’s long-term strategy, which has a strong focus on the environment. In its commitment to delivering green transport, the company is taking the lead in Lithuania, beginning to convert its fleet to gas-powered early on, before the existence of a fueling network in the country. It is also planning to invest in a natural gas filling station on their premises near Klaipèda, close to Lithuania’s main motorway. This will be the first station in the country.

In a first phase, Vlantana will use the new Iveco S-Way LNG trucks on European routes where the distribution network is in place. The European Union’s Green Deal is driving a strong focus on sustainable transport solutions across its member states, where the number of refueling stations is growing fast and already covers the main transport corridors.

These trucks will enable Vlantana to deliver logistics solutions with dramatically lower particulate matter and NO2 emissions compared to diesel and, when running on biomethane, 95% less CO2. In addition to their environmental benefits, the LNG trucks also deliver best-in-class fuel autonomy up to 1,600 km, efficiency without compromise in every mission, significant savings with a TCO significantly lower than an equivalent diesel truck, and a superior onboard driving and living experience.
