January 12, 2022. At the end of 2021, a vehicle fleet of 62,000 high-consumption units powered by natural gas for vehicles (NGV) was registered, a fuel that guarantees savings of approximately 40% compared to gasoline and diesel.
Andrés Bayona, President of the Mexican Association of Natural Gas Vehicles (AMGNV), indicated that in December 2021 there were 81 filling stations and 26 under construction of the 38 planned for this year.
Among the new facilities, Natgas plans to open service stations in Ojocaliente, Aguascalientes and Monterrey for the first quarter of 2022, and another one will be opened in Periferico Sur in Guadalajara by mid-year.
“In two years, despite the pandemic, the NGV infrastructure in Mexico continues to grow; Currently there is coverage in 14 entities of the Republic for 62,000 high-consumption vehicles, mainly buses, taxis, delivery trucks and, recently, long-distance cargo trucks.”
“This is good news, but it is not enough in the face of 50 million vehicles reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) in Mexico,” said Andrés Bayona at the 2021 General Assembly.
The businessman stressed that the AMGNV partners are committed to being part of the solution to achieve cleaner, safer and more efficient mobility. “The most important challenge is to duplicate the vehicle fleet and the construction of new refueling stations, CNG loading terminals and cryogenic plants for the liquefaction of liquefied natural gas (LNG)”.
Likewise, he recalled that political will is essential to promote this growth that will have a favorable impact on the reduction of pollutants in transport and in compliance with commitments in favor of the environment.
