April 22, 2024. Natural gas for vehicles (NGV) is considered one of the fuels that contribute to Colombia’s energy transition. In line with its commitment to be a Country Ally and promote a sustainable future, Terpel, with its gazel brand, inaugurated the Las Palmas NGV service station located in Aguachica, Cesar. With this new opening, Terpel completes the green corridor that connects the interior of the country with the Caribbean Region through an interconnected network of 5 stations, which guarantees the supply of this energy for around 2,000km. Likewise, it is integrated into the network of 80 stations for heavy vehicles.
Today, nearly 1,300 heavy vehicles dedicated to natural gas circulate in the country. According to the Colombian Natural Gas Association (Naturgas), in 2023, 342 new vehicles dedicated to gas will be sold. Of this total, 310 were cargo trucks weighing more than 10.5 tons, 12% more than the previous year in this segment. The inauguration of the Las Palmas station in Aguachica, Cesar, responds to the increase in demand and strengthens the NGV supply in the country.
“This new station is focused on providing the best service to our consumers, especially the transportation sector. It has wide turning ranges, and has a robust compression capacity that allows tanking times for heavy vehicles to be reduced to approximately 15 minutes, significantly reducing operating costs for both drivers and business owners. “This is how we promote the country’s connectivity with environmentally friendly energy,” said Johand Patiño, Commercial Vice President of Terpel.
The opening of this station is part of Terpel’s expansion plan with its gazel brand that estimates the opening in 2024 of new stations in Cartagena and La Dorada, Caldas, promoting the development of solid and accessible infrastructure to promote the adoption of NGV in the country and contribute to its energy transition.
