April 12, 2022. The exponential use of natural gas vehicle (NGV) services rose to 113,497,658 cubic meters in 2021, a volume equivalent to 403,802 cubic meters per day, which translated into the release of 119,172,541 liters (358,953 liters per day) of liquid fuel, according to the Annual Report of PDVSA Gas, in which it is planned to make the dual, gas-gasoline, the dominant energy component in the Venezuelan automotive fleet.
The accelerated consumption of natural gas for vehicles in the 107 points of sale exceeded the projected goal by 146%, since the sale of 81,400,000 cubic meters was planned.
The report details that for the period of 2021 the incorporation of 32 service stations was planned. However, it highlights that operability and availability have been affected by breakdowns and major damages, as a result of recurring failures in the national electrical system, and the lack of availability of spare parts determined by the sanctions applied to Venezuela by the United States.
By 2022, PDVSA Gas intends to establish the guidelines and policies for the commercialization of natural gas as an alternative fuel to liquid, for which it will generate a price structure consistent with the sustainability of the business, allowing it to be attractive to interested parties.
In addition, the project underway plans to increase the network of CNG facilities nationwide to supply the automotive fleet and public transport, as well as develop strategic agreements under the legal framework of the Anti-Blockade Law for the installation of the dual system to vehicles of the national automotive fleet.
Another point of the plan is to establish alliances with the company Corpoelec that allows maintaining, from the availability of resources and supplies, a number of operational CNG stations so as not to impact supply at the national level, and incorporate with its own resources and with strategic alliances the vehicles with the dual system that require maintenance, for which it foresees agreements with the private company and interested parties for the installation and calibration of the conversion systems as well as for the promotion of the use of gas vehicles.
